White-collar cases rarely stay in one city. The investigation is run where the competent specialised prosecutor, the tax investigation service or the customs investigation office sits, and the trial takes place before the commercial criminal chamber of the regional court. Knowing these structures makes for a more targeted defence.

- Specialised prosecutors' offices for white-collar crime in every federal state, often supported by central units for corruption, money laundering, asset recovery or healthcare fraud.
- Tax investigation services and the criminal tax units of the tax offices.
- Eight customs investigation offices in Berlin, Dresden, Essen, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich and Stuttgart, coordinated by the Customs Criminal Office in Cologne.
- The European Public Prosecutor's Office, with five German offices in Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich.

Many cases have a foreign element: supply chains, accounts and companies abroad, sanctions and export control, cross-border VAT fraud. We act in European Arrest Warrant and mutual legal assistance matters, advise foreign companies facing investigations in Germany, see arrest of a foreign national, and work with law firms abroad.

Do you only act in Frankfurt?
No. Frankfurt am Main is our seat, but we have defended clients in all sixteen German federal states, most often in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, and we act in proceedings with a cross-border dimension.
How do you work when the case is far away?
File inspection, submissions and coordination are largely electronic. We attend interviews, detention reviews, meetings with the prosecutor and the trial in person. In an emergency such as a dawn raid or an arrest, we can be reached around the clock.
Which authorities will I deal with?
Usually a specialised public prosecutor's office for white-collar crime, the tax investigation service or one of the eight customs investigation offices, and in cases involving EU funds the European Public Prosecutor's Office, which has five offices in Germany.
Can you act for foreign companies and individuals?
Yes. We work in German and English, and our China Desk communicates in Chinese. Typical matters are investigations against foreign companies in Germany, arrests on entry, European Arrest Warrants and mutual legal assistance requests.
